Week 5 - Tasmania
After a wonderful month in New Zealand, we're now in Australia, beginning with a week traveling in Tasmania. Unlike our stay on the south island of NZ, we're really just scratching the surface of Tassie, sticking mostly to the southern coast within a couple hours of Hobart, the main city. Nonetheless, we've managed to get out and see quite a bit, in addition to visiting with Norma''s Aussie family and some friends from highschool here. Highlights included our Airbnb on the water in Dunnally (with kayaks!), a great beach walk in Tasman National Park, a beautiful wander around the Royal Botanical Garden in Hobart, and a drive up Mt Wellington.
Hobart and the small towns we drove through in the Huon Valley were the big surprise - really charming. Kind of like the best of small villages in New York & New England but with a distinctly Tassie character...
We even got in a nice bit of wine tasting here too!
So... For the next several weeks we'll be in Berowra in the north Sydney suburbs at Norma's mum's place. We're house and dog sitting for a week of that, and doing day trips and visiting all of Norma's old highschool friends from 1981! More to come soon -
